Lately I’ve noticed that we all love sharing ideas, resources, tips, etc. amongst friends. So, we are starting Aloha Friday - 5 Fab Finds, a simple list of things we are loving at the moment.
This will be a random mix from life's adventures. We hope you’ll share your recommendations, thoughts and ideas with us too. So, feel free to reply to this message with things you’re currently into.
Recently introduced to Flow Magazine and can’t put it down! Seriously. It’s like a girl party in magazine form with no ads. None. The first issue I saw included topics ranging from finding calm in the chaos, celebrating creativity, life’s little pleasures (and imperfections) -- ooh, heavenly! Remember those workbooks you had as a kid, that tried to make learning fun with cutouts of paper dolls, origami directions or other engaging activities? Well, hello adult cool version! And we’ve already outed ourselves and admitted our stationery addiction to you, this magazine definitely is something uniquely appealing to this paper snob. Find a buddy or two to swap/share with as these gems are not the cheapest in the stack, but oh so worth it!
I’m just about done with my ump-teenth jar of Fresh Black Tea Eye Cream so clearly it's something I’m into. My skin routine is pretty simple to the dismay of my sister-in-law Lisa who is a esthetician and good friend Jenn (@cosmeticmonster) who is a self-proclaimed skincare junkie and all things cosmetic fanatic. But in my opinion, simple is the way to go and the Fresh line is perfect for me! I use it twice daily and though it is a little pricey, the product is great and lasts several months.
Great fun listening to Hanging out with Nolan Hong podcasts! He and his producer Jamie do an awesome job while having a ton of fun too. They are about 20 episodes in, featuring great local celebrities and well-known folks from our community. You can listen via iTunes or directly from their site here.
I know it’s been way too (flippin’) hot for soup, but this one is a classic that I just pulled out for a camping trip and it was a hit! Honestly, I love cooking for friends/family and it made me smile to see everyone enjoying. Sam Choy’s Portuguese Bean recipe is the basic format I use but add my own twists, starting with canned beans, adding diced or stewed tomatoes and frying up sausage with a portion of onions, diced carrots & celery then adding to broth. Make a day or two ahead so you can skim the fat and let the flavors mingle together.
This Kuretake Zig Cocoiro Letter Pen I got from JetPens, recently joined my collection and often finds itself at the top of the stack. You choose a body and then pen refill to get started (around $4.25 all together). At first, my OCD self did not like the little refill butt exposed, but cover it with the cap while the pen is in use and you’ll be fine. Speaking of fine, the nib is an extra fine brush that is water-based. Writing is smooth with just a little definition for the up and down stroke. LOVE!
